history

Ruins of the church before reconstruction

The church made of field stones was built in the 12th century in what was then Njudung , one of the countries from which Småland later emerged. After extensions, the church was no longer used and fell into disrepair since the middle of the 19th century. In 1934 the church was consecrated anew after it had been rebuilt in its original form under the direction of Erik Lundberg . The initiative for the reconstruction came from Pastor Carl Niklasson . The tombstone of the pastor, who has been honored for his commitment, is carved as a stone cross and is located next to the church.

Some of the furnishings were created by the wood sculptor Eva Spångberg , who lives in Björkelund , a little further north . So in particular the altar cross. The baptismal font dates back to the 12th century, the pulpit from 1657. The church has a 1850 by organ builder John Magnusson built organ .

The church is owned by the Protestant church Hjälmseryd which to Sävsjö pastorate in pen Växjö belongs. A Hjälmseryd Foundation ensures that daily church services are carried out, such as hour, morning, noon and evening prayers.
