Sanatorieskogen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sanatorieskogen (German: Sanatoriumswald ) is a forest in the area of the city of Sävsjö in Sweden .

The name goes back to a sanatorium that was built in Sävsjö in 1907 as a sanatorium for lung patients . The sanatorium building, one of the largest wooden houses in Northern Europe, is now used as the Hotel Ljunga Park . A part of today's forest belonged to the park of the sanatorium. Plants typical of parks can therefore be found in this area. The eastern part of the site is still designed as a park today.

Birch , mountain ash , oak , alder , aspen , linden and white willow dominate the forest . There are hiking trails and a barbecue and resting area. A stream runs through the forest. In the forest there is a prehistoric burial ground with several circular stone boxes from the Iron Age , the diameter of which is about four to six meters.
