Hultsjö Church

Hultsjö is a village in the Swedish municipality of Sävsjö in the province of Jönköpings län and the historic province (landskap) Småland .

It is a little remote south of the town of Sävsjö on the road from Sävsjö to Kännestubba . To the west is Stockaryd . Lake Hultsjön extends east of the village . Hultsjö has less than 50 inhabitants (as of 2010). The Höglandsleden hiking trail runs near the village .

The history of the village goes back a long way. The Iron Age burial ground of Hultsjö extends northeast of the actual location . In the village itself is the church of Hultsjö with an old churchyard and furnishings from the 13th century. However, today's church was not built until the 1860s.

Personalities

The Swedish superintendent Johannes Petri Ungius (1570–1617) was born in Hultsjö .

The Swedish theologian, naturalist and doctor Johan Pontén (1776-1857) was a pastor at the church of Hultsjö for a time.

Ulrika Eleonora Stålhammar (1683–1733), best known as a female soldier, died in 1733 in the settlement Björnskog, a little northwest of Hultsjö .
