Stockaryd is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Jönköpings län and the historic province of Småland . It is part of the Sävsjö municipality .

history

The local area was already settled in prehistoric times. And situated in the town cemetery of Stockaryd from the Iron Age goes back to this.

When the southern Swedish railway line Södra stambanan was completed in 1864, the farming village of Stockaryd grew rapidly and became a locality. In 1906 and 1907 Stockaryd Church was built , replacing a previous building from the end of the 17th century. The heyday of the place was between around 1920 and 1970. After that, the population began to decline. Because of this, house prices are relatively low. There are also only a few rental apartments.

Stockaryd has been the center of Swedish workbench manufacture since the 1950s .

Personalities

The Swedish physicist and oceanographer Vagn Walfrid Ekman (1874–1954) was born in Gostad , near Stockaryds . The Swedish actress Kerstin Moheden was born in Stockaryd in 1917.
