Anika Niederwieser (born February 28, 1992 in Brixen ) is an Italian handball player who belongs to the squad of the Italian national team. She was voted Italian handball woman of the year 2019.

Career

Niederwieser started playing handball at SSV Brixen. In 2011 the backcourt player moved to the Italian first division club Esercito Figh Futura Roma , with whom she participated in the EHF Challenge Cup in the 2012/13 season . From summer 2016 she played for the German Bundesliga club Thuringian HC . With the Thuringian HC she won the German championship in 2018 and the DHB Supercup in 2016 . For the 2018/19 season, she moved to league competitor TuS Metzingen .

Niederwieser runs for the Italian national team. She is also a member of the Italian national beach handball team. She won bronze medals at the 2011 and 2015 European Beach Handball Championships . At the Beach Handball World Championship in 2014, Niederwieser was named the best defender of the tournament.
