The Mitteldeutsche Oberliga (MDOL) is one of the twelve squadrons of the handball league of the German Handball Federation and the top division of the three independent regional associations of Saxony (HVS), Saxony-Anhalt (HVSA) and Thuringia (THV). After the Bundesliga , the 2nd Bundesliga and the 3rd League, the Oberliga is the fourth highest division in German handball .
history
After the termination of the contract on the joint operation of the regional associations of the South German Handball Association (SHV), the North German Handball Association (NHV), the South-West German Handball Association (SWHV ), the North- East German Handball Association (NOHV) and the West German Handball Association (WHV) and the associated ones Cessation of the regional league middle (see also handball regional league ), efforts were made by various clubs from Central Germany to found a regional association middle. In 2005 the initiative for this came from SV Hermsdorf , but without success. In 2007 it was the HC unit in Halle that took up the problem again. At a club meeting of the central German handball clubs, the clear will to found a sixth regional association was articulated. The chairmen of the three regional associations who were also present were given the task of taking all the necessary steps. After the second meeting in Halle, the Central German Handball Association was founded in Eisenberg. Due to the restructuring of the 3rd leagues (formerly the regional league) under the roof of the DHB , there was no longer any play in the regional associations. They were subsequently dissolved. The Central German Handball Association, supported by the three regional associations HVS, HVSA and THV, has been organizing matches in the Central German Oberliga since 2010.
The founding teams of the Handball-Oberliga Mitteldeutschland 2010/11 were:

As of the 2018/19 season, the women's MDOL was restructured: After a reduction in relay strength from 12 teams (2017/18) to 10 teams (2018/19), a further reduction to 8 teams should then be in the 2019/20 season The league will then be played in a league system (everyone against everyone) with a subsequent play-off double round. Based on the reports from the clubs, the MHV decided to continue playing with 10 teams in the 2019/20 season.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , there were no relegated athletes in the 2019/20 season, so that 17 (men) and 12 (women) teams will take part in the MDOL in the 2020/21 season; In order to reach the regular team number (men: 14, women: 10), there will be more stringent relegation regulations this season.

Statistics 2019/20
Game operations were suspended from March 12, 2020 to May 3, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . On May 3, 2020, the MHV Presidium decided to cancel the MHV championships in all leagues. The final tables are calculated on the basis of the DHB quotient regulation according to the following scheme with the reference date March 12, 2020:
- Division of the plus points by the number of games played, multiplied by 100 and rounded down to one decimal place ( point quotient )
- If the point quotient is the same, the direct comparison decides if all the games of the direct comparison are available (complete direct comparison )
- If the direct comparison is not complete or undecided, the goal difference quotient decides (division of the goal difference by the number of games played, multiplied by 100 and rounded down to one decimal place)
- further decision criteria according to DHB decision
