The Thuringian Handball Association e. V. ( THV ) is the umbrella organization of all handball clubs in Thuringia and belongs to the State Sports Association of Thuringia .

The Thuringian Handball Association is one of 22 national handball associations in Germany. It is divided into five districts. The national handball clubs and departments in Thuringia belong to it. It was founded in 1990 and since then has also been a member of the German Handball Federation eV (DHB).

The THV is responsible for the organization and coordination of the nationwide game operations from the U8 to the Thuringia League. The THV has been running the league games since 2007 in cooperation with the handball associations of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt as the Mitteldeutscher Handball-Verband eV (MHV).

As the organ above the clubs, the task of the THV is to sustainably develop and promote handball in Thuringia, both in competitive and popular sports. The association acts as a link between the clubs and the DHB as the central association.

The training and further education of the trainers is the responsibility of the THV Lehrwart and is controlled centrally by the THV and partly carried out centrally, but also decentrally. In addition to referee training, observation and appointment (referee committee), coach training (competitive sports committee) and the handling of games (game committee) including implementation of the legal system and the implementation regulations, the association also provides cross-association youth work (youth committee) and deals with issues of general association development (development committee). He also takes care of the organization and implementation of the young talent sport, which u. a. consists of the sightings and promotion of the THV selection teams in special training and competition operations.

The supreme body of the association is the association day, which takes place every 4 years. In addition to the Association Day, the Association Youth Day also meets every 4 years before the Association Day.

Association structure

The THV is divided into five specialist handball committees (HFA).

The five handball committees:

  • HFA South Thuringia
  • HFA North Thuringia
  • HFA East Thuringia
  • HFA West Thuringia
  • HFA Central Thuringia

League system

In both men and women, the THV organizes the Thuringia League as the highest national league (5th level in the league hierarchy of German handball) and the state league (6th level) (5th and 6th level in the women's area). The national league has been combined into one relay for men from the 2019/20 season. In the women's division, there will be two national leagues from the 2019/20 season, in which the season winners and the second, the Thuringian league play. The following divisions in the league hierarchy are organized by the five specialist handball committees. The top division in the men's division is the association league. This is followed by the association class with up to 3 relays.

Cup system

The Thuringia Cup is organized by the THV for both men and women. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, games for men's and women's teams are on a voluntary basis. Each club or syndicate may register a team.
