The Thuringian League (TL) is the top division of the Thuringian Handball Association . The Thuringian League is the fifth highest division in German handball after the Bundesliga , the 2nd Bundesliga , the 3rd League and the Handball Oberliga Mitteldeutschland . In the 2020/2021 season, 51 teams in four different age groups will play in the Thuringian leagues (men, women, mJA, mJB, mJC, wJB, wJC).

From 1991 to 2010 the Thuringian League was called Oberliga Thuringia and belonged to the fourth highest division in German handball. After the establishment of the 3rd league and the associated dissolution of the third-tier regional leagues, Thuringia, together with Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, formed the fourth-tier handball league in Central Germany since the 2010/11 season, making the Thuringian league fifth.

Statistics 2019/20

Game operations were suspended on March 12, 2020 until at least April 19, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . On April 21, 2020, the THV Presidium decided to cancel the THV championships in all leagues. The final tables are calculated on the basis of the DHB quotient regulation according to the following scheme with the reference date March 12, 2020:

  1. Division of the plus points by the number of games played, multiplied by 100 and rounded down to one decimal place ( point quotient )
  2. If the point quotient is the same, the direct comparison decides if all the games of the direct comparison are available (complete direct comparison )
  3. If the direct comparison is not complete or undecided, the goal difference quotient decides (division of the goal difference by the number of games played, multiplied by 100 and rounded down to one decimal place)
  4. further decision criteria according to DHB decision

In the case of parallel scales, the scoring is also based on the quotient rule.
