SG Werra Valley 92

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SG Werratal 92 was a handball club from Thuringia . The game community emerged in 1992 from a merger of the handball clubs of the southern Thuringian communities Breitungen / Werra , Wernshausen and Niederschmalkalden (all districts of Schmalkalden-Meiningen ).

Successes and bankruptcy

After several years in the regional handball league , the greatest success in the club's history was the promotion of the first men's team to the 2nd handball league in 2004. The team finished the 2004/2005 season in 14th place in the table. The sporting success contrasted with the commercial failure. The board of the handball Bundesliga refused the SG the license for the 2005/2006 season and thus after a year of membership in the second division, the forced relegation followed. The bankruptcy in autumn 2005 finally led to the dissolution of the association. The coach of the second division team was Peter Dávid , players at that time included Karsten Schäfer , Vigindas Petkevičius , Rene Croy, Jürgen Ley, Anthony Pistolesi , Igor Ardan, Martin Martanovic, Francois Woum-Woum, Stefan Schuchardt and Milos Hacko.

Venues

The home games of the SG Werratal were played in the Breitungen sports center, which was expanded to include a grandstand area in 1996. Second division home games were mostly played in the multi-purpose hall Schmalkalden .

Successor club

As a successor club, the handball community HSG Werratal 05 was founded in 2005, which was given the playing rights of the lower-class teams and youth teams of the SG Werratal 92 and is active in both men's and women's handball. The first men's team of the HSG currently plays in the Thuringian League of the Thuringian Handball Association , the women's team in the Women's Association League Thuringia, Season 2; Home games are played in Breitungen.

From July 1, 2012 to August 25, 2013, the first men's team was trained by Gerd Stefanowsky , a long-time player in the GDR Oberliga teams SC Leipzig and SC DHfK Leipzig . Since September 10, 2013, Nils Kühr , A license holder of the DHB and previously co-trainer of ThSV Eisenach , has been the trainer of the first men's team at HSG Werratal 05.

At the beginning of the 2015/2016 season, the former active Daniel Hellwig took over the coaching position at HSG Werratal 05.
