Club history
HSV Apolda was founded on September 1st, 1990 as the successor to BSG Obertrikotagen Apolda . In 2019 the association had around 320 members.
Due to the reorganization of the sports landscape in Germany, which became necessary due to German reunification , the first men's team in the 1991/1992 season was grouped into the 2nd handball Bundesliga, Staffel Mitte. The team finished the season with 1:51 points in table position 14 and had to relegate to the regional league. Participation in this division is so far the highest division in which a team of the club could play.
