The club, founded in 1990, continues the sporting tradition of Gispersleben, which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. This underwent a profound change in 1945 after all sports clubs had to be dissolved. With the establishment of company sports associations (BSG) at the end of the 1940s, sport was brought back into order in the GDR . BSG Motor Gispersleben was founded in 1950 in the largest company in Gispersleber, VEB Thüringer Stahlbau. In it, sections for numerous sports were created, of which acrobatics and football achieved national success. The acrobats were able to achieve the greatest successes. Between 1957 and 1959, several GDR championship titles were won in various women's categories.

In football, the BSG Motor initially played in the fourth class district class Thuringia and from 1952 Erfurt, which became fifth class in 1956 with the introduction of the 2nd GDR league . In 1958, he was promoted to the district league , in which Motor Gispersleben was initially able to hold uninterrupted until 1969. After the 2nd GDR league was discontinued, the district league became the third division in 1963. In the 1962/63 season Gispersleben was district champion, but missed promotion to the GDR league in relegation . Since BSG Motor had also won the soccer district cup in 1963, it was eligible to participate in the GDR-wide cup competition in 1963/64. There she was able to turn off GDR league club Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt 2-1 in the first main round and only failed in the second main round at GDR league team Chemie Zeitz 0-4. In 1969 Motor Gispersleben was relegated from the district league and later appeared there only sporadically. BSG Motor finished the last season in GDR football in 1990/91 with 13th place in the district league.

When after the political change in 1990 it became possible to found associations again, previous BSG members founded the registered association TSV Motor Gispersleben in Gispersleben. He kept the wide range of sports offered by the BSG. The bowling department, whose team made it into the 2nd Bundesliga, developed most successfully. While the teams in basketball and handball played at the state level in 2015, the other sports remained inferior. In 2015, the soccer team only played in the eight-class district league.
