The Hessian Handball Association e. V. (HHV) is a regional association within the German Handball Federation (DHB). Until the dissolution of the Southwest German Handball Association , he was organizationally subordinate to it. One of the effects of the introduction of the 3rd division and the A-Jugend-Bundesliga by the DHB was the subsequent dissolution of the Southwest German Handball Association .

The highest division of the HHV based in Frankfurt am Main is the Oberliga Hessen , from which the best team is promoted to the 3rd division . Furthermore, the national leagues are under the jurisdiction of the HHV. All other game classes that are below fall under the jurisdiction of the respective handball district.

The area of the HHV is not identical with the state borders of the federal state of Hesse. In particular, Lower Franconia, which belongs to Bavaria, is affiliated with the HHV with teams such as the TV Großwallstadt . In contrast, TSV Birkenau , for example, is affiliated with the Baden handball association , although Birkenau is Hessian.
