The Southwest German Handball Association (SWHV) was a regional association in the German Handball Federation ( DHB) until its dissolution and consisted of the six regional associations

The regional association was founded in 1952. On October 29, 2011, an extraordinary association day in Erfurt decided to dissolve it. This was due to the fact that the establishment of the 3rd leagues, which are managed by the DHB, and the male A youth leagues and the strengthening of the upper leagues, which are managed by the regional associations, no longer have their own game operations. The last president was the Merzig lawyer Wolfgang Kirsch, who was only elected on the last regular association day on July 3, 2010 in Koblenz. Since 1952, the SWHV consisted only of the state associations of Hesse, Saarland, Palatinate and Rheinhessen. In December 1990 the Thuringian Regional Association was incorporated. On January 1st, 2002, the handball association Rhineland, located in Rhineland-Palatinate territory, was incorporated into the SWHV as the 6th association. This was previously affiliated with the West German Handball Association .
