The Palatinate Handball Association (PfHV) is one of six regional associations that belong to the Southwest German Handball Association. The PfHV was founded on November 12, 1949 in Schifferstadt. The highest division of the PfHV is the Pfalzliga.

Participation in the Oberliga RPS

The Oberliga R (heinland) - P (falz) / S (aar), which follows above the Palatinate League, is a major league in which four regional handball associations ( Rheinhessen , Rhineland , Palatinate and Saar ) are represented, which this division as part of a working group (ARGE) operate together. 16 teams take part in the 2007/08 season.

Area of the PfHV

The association area of the PfHV is the Palatinate . It is not, as is usual in other regional associations, further divided into districts and / or districts. The entire game operation up to the lowest division is looked after by the PfHV alone.

History of Palatine handball

The sport of handball has an important tradition in the Palatinate, which goes back to the beginning of the 20th century. At that time handball was far from what it is today. On October 29, 1917, the “goal ball” became “handball” and from then on there were the first “fixed rules”. It was then that the first game enthusiasts gathered and organized games and tournaments, and the first clubs were founded. In the post-war period, clubs like TSG Haßloch , SV Friesenheim or TuS 04 Kaiserslautern-Dansenberg played in the highest Palatinate league. In 1975 it was TSG Haßloch that won the last German field handball championship. The time of field handball was long over by then, because now people played on smaller fields in halls. The upheaval was difficult, but one had to adapt to international developments. After the introduction of the regional league, they wanted to assert themselves there too, which was only tentative because the strong teams from Hesse were a great competition. To date, more than 17,000 player cards have been issued to handball enthusiasts from the Palatinate.

Important teams of the PfHV

TSG Friesenheim is an important team , which has been able to assert itself in the 2nd Bundesliga for many years and just missed promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in 2007 . In the 2009/10 season, the Friesenheimers finally managed to move up to the 1st Bundesliga, where they could only hold their own for a year. With the 2014/2015 season, TSG Friesenheim is once again playing first class. TV Hochdorf also plays in the 3rd division .

The TSG Haßloch is one of the veterans of the Palatinate handball and was 1,975 German field handball champion. Since the German field handball championship has not been played since then, TSG is still the "reigning champion". The TV Hochdorf played for six years (from 1966 to 1972) in the first Bundesliga and in 1967 achieved the German runner-up in indoor handball, the biggest success to date, of a club from the PfHV. After winning the southern season of the two-track handball Bundesliga , which was held for the first time this season , the Hochdorf team were defeated in the final of the German championship to the champions of the northern season, the up-and-coming VfL Gummersbach , on March 25 in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle in front of 8000 spectators with 7:23 (3: 8).

Other important clubs are the HSG Eckbachtal, which as a "new" syndicate of three parent clubs (TSV Freinsheim , ATB Heuchelheim , TuS Laumersheim ) has the largest youth department and the TuS 04 Kaiserslautern-Dansenberg which has been in the 2nd Bundesliga and in the Regionalliga Südwest played. In addition, large clubs such as B. 1. FC Kaiserslautern with its handball department, which in its history already won the Palatinate Cup championship in 1925 , is involved in the game operations of the PfHV.

Youth work of the PfHV

The Palatinate Handball Association attaches great importance to good youth work. Clubs are honored with outstanding youth work. Not only good youth work is expected from the clubs, but the PfHV itself offers talented players the opportunity to attend the regular selection and support activities. For example, the PfHV introduced a so-called base training to give clubs the opportunity to specifically promote talented youth players, from D youth, and to prepare them for the Palatinate selection. There are then three base tournaments per year. After two years of base training, a screening will be carried out at the last base tournament. The sighted players then form a new Palatinate selection together with the respective coaches.
