The gymnastics and sports club Spenge e. V. - in short: TuS Spenge - is a sports club from Spenge in East Westphalia . The club gained national fame through its men's handball team, which played in the 2nd Bundesliga for seven years .

Handball

The 1st handball team of the TuS played since the promotion from the Regionalliga Nord in 2001 to 2008 in the 2nd handball Bundesliga team north of the men. In the first two seasons under coach Walter Schubert the 6th place in the final table was achieved. After the club split up with Schubert in December 2006 after almost ten years of working together, they were still able to stay up in the 2006/07 season with Andreas Bock as player-coach.

The first season after the Schubert era (2007/08) ended with 17th place in the table and thus a relegation place. From the 2008/09 season the TuS Spenge played in the Regionalliga West . With the 9th place in the 2009/10 season they qualified for the newly founded 3rd division . In the following 2010/11 season, the team was relegated to the Oberliga Westfalen and was runner-up in 2015 behind TuS Volmetal .

In 2017 and 2018, the Spenger won the DHB Amateur Cup , making them the record winners of this competition. Also in 2018, TuS Spenge rose to the 3rd division.
