history

The gymnastics and sports club Anderten von 1897 eV was founded on October 11, 1945. It emerged from the clubs MTV Vater Jahn from 1897 and the Freie Turnerschaft from 1909, which had been banned by the British occupying forces after the Second World War. In the club gymnastics and handball and in 1947 table tennis for a short time were also practiced. In November 1945 the club was given a sports hall for use. After a swimming pool was built in 1967 due to the development of Anderten, a new sports hall in 1971 and a tennis facility in 1978, other sports were added to the club's offer.

The handball department consists of 21 teams. The first men's team played in the 2nd Bundesliga North from 2007 to 2010 . On August 8, 2008, the club announced that the second division team will in future appear under the name HSV Hannover Handball. At the same time, the move to the newly built Könicke Hall in the Lenny Soccio Ice & Event Center in Langenhagen was announced. The regional ice hockey league team Langenhagen Jets also plays there .

In March 2010, the club announced that after the withdrawal of a main sponsor, no further matches in the 2nd Bundesliga would be possible; HSV Hannover was the first to be relegated. Since then, HSV Hannover has played in the 3rd division created in 2010 , in which it was assigned to the North Season from the 2010/11 season. In the current 2019/2020 season, HSV Hannover is playing in the North-East relay.
