The Ahlener SG ( Ahlener Sportgemeinschaft, ASG ) is a sports club in Ahlen that emerged from the merger of the predecessor clubs Ahlener SV and HSG in 1993 and was represented with its handball department in the 2nd Bundesliga . In addition, she runs departments for football , water sports , volleyball , table tennis and fitness.

history

After many years of efforts by various clubs to concentrate the domestic sports offers, the Ahlener SG was founded on May 24, 1993 as a merger of the Ahlener Sportvereinigung (ASV) and the handball community (HSG). The two founding associations each looked back on a 20-year history and originally also emerged from association mergers. The aim of the merger was to bundle regional forces, especially in the sport of handball. The concept worked with promotion to the 2nd handball league in 1999. Since then, the Ahlener SG has been continuously represented in the second highest handball league.

The handball department has played as the club's figurehead with the men's team since 1999 without interruption in the 2nd handball league. In addition, other men's teams play in the regional league, the district league and three teams in two different seasons of the district class. The first women's team plays in the regional league, the second in the district league. In the youth sector, the ASG provides up to two teams in all age groups for both boys and girls. The handball department is one of the largest departments in Germany.

On October 16, 2009, Ahlener SG and ASV Hamm 04/69 Handball announced that they wanted to form a game community. This occurred after the successful rise of the second division champions ASV Hamm from the 2010/2011 season under the name HSG Ahlen-Hamm in the top German division. After the descent of the HSG and financial problems, the syndicate was dissolved again after one season. While ASV Hamm took over the HSG's license for the 2nd league , Ahlener SG played in the 3rd league in the 2011/12 season with the HSG Youngsters (2nd team) playing authorization, which they already held. From the 2012/13 season the team played in the handball Oberliga Westfalen. The cooperation in the youth sector between Ahlen and Hamm was also completely dissolved for the 2012/13 season. Since then, over 20 youth teams from the female and male area have been playing under the name JSG HLZ Ahlen, or HLZ Ahlen for short. In March 2013, the state service center Münsterland was also opened. With a new training hall, including a conference and weight room, the club now offers first-class opportunities for training and promoting young players. There are also several partnerships with schools in Ahlen in the field of schools. The men's team returned to the 3rd division in 2016. In the past 2018/19 season, the team finished 10th.

Soccer

The soccer department provides two men's teams and, in the youth area, the boys in all age groups up to four teams. The first team will compete in the ninth class Kreisliga A Beckum in the 2018/19 season.

After the merger in 1993, Ahlerner SG took over from Ahlener SV in the national league . There the Ahlen team came third in 1994 and six years later runner-up behind the DJK Wiedenbrück . In 2002, the class could only be held after a 2-1 win in the decider against SV Thülen , before the team relegated to the district league two years later with only one point won. There the Ahlen were passed on to the district league A. In 2009, he was promoted to the district league again, before relegated to the district league A four years later. In 2019, the ASG footballers were relegated to the district league B.

Since September 2004, the Ahlener SG has been the first and only Ahlen sports club to offer girls and women the opportunity to practice this sport. In autumn 2008, the entire team of coaches ended their collaboration with Ahlener SG and switched to Rot Weiss Ahlen .

water sports

The water sports department offers a wide range of activities for all levels of ability, from training early swimmers to popular sports for children and young people through to competitive sports. The greatest successes of the youth competition team so far have been eight championship titles at the East Westphalian short course championships in October 1997. Jessica Starke was able to swim the German championship title over 50 m breaststroke in 1998, which she successfully defended in 1999. Annually - in 2008 for the 23rd time - the water sports department of the ASG organizes the Heinz-Lenfert-Pokalschwimmen, a two-day swimming festival with a supporting program and overnight stay in a tent on the grounds of the Ahlen outdoor pool.

volleyball

The volleyball department has a women's, a men's, a female A-youth and a female B-youth team. The women, the U 18 girls and the men play in the district class in the 2008/09 season.
