The SG Schalksmühle-Halver is a handball community made up of the handball clubs of the city of Halver and the municipality of Schalksmühle in North Rhine-Westphalia . The syndicate was founded in 2003. The licensee and the operating company is SH-Handballspielbetriebs-GmbH.

history

The SG Schalksmühle-Halver, or SGSH for short, was founded in 2003 by the TuS Halver, TuS Stöcken-Dahlerbrück, TuS Oeckinghausen and Schalksmühler TV associations. Before that there was the SG Halver-Oeckinghausen within Halvers and the Schalksmühler handball players were organized in the HSG Schalksmühle.

Handball has a long and successful tradition in both cities, with the Schalksmühler handball usually producing the higher-class teams. The best-known name that was active for Schalksmühler TV is Vlado Stenzel , who was a coach in Schalksmühle in the mid-seventies. Stenzel then led the German national team to the world championship title in 1978 with the player Heiner Brand , who later became national coach himself.

The declared aim of the merger was to reach the regional league by pooling playful and financial resources and to establish a second team in the association league. At the time of the merger, both clubs were playing in the Oberliga Westfalen.

Since the 2013/2014 season, the team has been playing in the 3rd League West.

For the 2018/2019 season, the team was renamed SGSH Dragons. The new name applies to all teams of the SG Schalksmühle-Halver.

successes

Already in the second season 2004/2005 the SG Schalksmühle-Halver was able to reach the goal and was promoted to the Regionalliga West. Here the team was able to hold out for three seasons before relegation in the league followed in the 2007/08 season. Due to additional relegations by the second division teams, the SGSH rose with 28:32 points. In the last game against VfL Gladbeck , which is also at risk , a draw was not enough. Particularly unfortunate that they only hit the post four seconds before the end; a hit would have meant relegation.

The team, which was significantly younger in the previous season, was second in the league in the following season. Since the Leichlinger TV successfully fought to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga at the green table, the SGSH was able to move up surprisingly into the regional league.

Since the 2010/11 season, the former five regional leagues have been under the administration of the DHB and operate under the name of the 3rd league in four seasons. To qualify for this, the surprisingly promoted SGSH had to reach 10th of 16th places at the end of the 2009/2010 season. The young team around goal scorer Julian Krieg and playmaker Christian Feldmann finished fourth. A few weeks before the end of the season, promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was still within reach. This dream did not come true and so the SGSH started in the 3rd League West .

Sports facilities

The SGSH alternates between its home games in Halver and Schalksmühle.

In Halver, it is the Mühlenstrasse sports hall, which is part of the Halver all-day school. With a capacity of over 900 spectators, it is the larger of the two halls and is therefore mostly used for the highlights. In 2006, TUSEM Essen was classified in the regional league after being relegated and was a guest at Mühlenstrasse. This was the most popular game, which was even professionally recorded with camera technology.

In Schalksmühle, the Löh sports hall of the Schalksmühle all-day school is the venue for home games. The capacity is around 600 spectators including the glazed foyer. Especially at the heyday of Schalksmühler TV, when it was playing for promotion to the second division, there were legendary games in the hall. At that time, the regulations of the municipalities and associations were not as restrictive as they are today. The spectators stood in two rows up to the bench and behind the goals, so that here too more than 800 spectators watched the games.

More teams

The club currently has four men's teams and one women's team in the senior division.

The SGSH Dragons 2 play in the HVW Association League Men Season 2. The third team plays in the district league A in the handball district Lenne-Sieg. The fourth is active in the district league B in the same handball group. The SGSH Dragons Ladies play in the District League South Westphalia, which is organized by the handball association Westphalia.

The youth area has been known as SGSH Dragons Juniors since summer 2018. The male A-youth plays in the Association League 2 of the HVW.
