The association for physical exercises Bad Schwartau from 1863 e. V. , VfL Bad Schwartau for short , is a sports club from Bad Schwartau , Schleswig-Holstein .

The club became known through its handball department , which has been outsourced to HM Handball Marketing Spielbetriebs GmbH & Co. KG , based in Lübeck since 2002, and which has been operating under the name VfL Lübeck-Schwartau since July 2017 .

The greatest success of VfL Bad Schwartau in football was participation in the DFB Cup in the 1977/78 season .

history

It was founded in 1863 as a men's gymnastics club in Bad Schwartau . In the course of time, the Schwartau ATSV Eichenkranz from 1898, the Schwartau Gymnastics Association from 1910 and the Schwartauer Ballspielclub from 1912 merged. With around 2,700 members, VfL Bad Schwartau is the second largest sports club in the Ostholstein district .

The club now has 19 departments, including badminton , fistball , orienteering , gymnastics , music and walking .

Handball

Men's

The first men's team played in the Bundesliga until the "SG VfL Bad Schwartau-Lübeck" was dissolved and the HSV Hamburg moved to Hamburg, and in 2001 they won the DHB Cup . From then on, the club played in the third-class Regionalliga Nordost and has played in the 2nd Bundesliga since the 2008/09 season . The team plays their home games in the Hansehalle in Lübeck and has been playing as VfL Lübeck-Schwartau since the 2017/18 season . The department has been outsourced to HM Handball Marketing Spielbetriebs GmbH & Co. KG since 2002 , to which VfL Bad Schwartau e. V. is involved.

Ladies

history

The women's team played in the seasons 1979/80 and 1980/81 also in the Bundesliga . In addition, the women were second class from 1997 to 2001 . In 2010 the women qualified for the newly founded 3rd division . In the 2012/13 season, VfL cooperated in the women's area with the second division club TSV Travemünde , whereupon the third division team was canceled.

VfL is very successful in youth work. In the male area, VfL cooperates with TSV Ratekau, NTSV Strand 08 and Lübeck 1876 . In the 2012/13 season, the male A-youth in the A-youth Bundesliga plays the female A-youth also in the Bundesliga. The second men's and youth teams are part of VfL Bad Schwartau e. V.

Soccer

The club's soccer department had its most successful period in the 1950s, when the later league player Atze Bornemann stormed until 1953 . From 1951 to 1953 and 1955 to 1961 they played in the amateur league Schleswig-Holstein , the second-highest level in the German league system at the time and also the top division of the Schleswig-Holstein Football Association . The last time the club appeared in the DFB-Pokal in 1977/78 was when they reached the first main round. There the team lost 3-0 at BV 04 Düsseldorf . In 2012 they reached 11th place as a climber from the district class A (Lübeck district) in the Lübeck district league.
