Career

Frank von Behren (2010)

Frank von Behren started playing handball in his hometown on TV Sachsenroß Hille . After a year in the youth department of GWD Minden , he made his debut in the Bundesliga team in 1996 . After seven years with GWD - in 1997 he was loaned to TSG Bielefeld for six months - he moved to VfL Gummersbach in 2003 , with whom he reached the semi-finals in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 EHF Cup . At the 2004 Olympic Games , he won the silver medal with the German national team . For this he and the German Olympic handball team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on March 16, 2005 by Federal President Horst Koehler . At the 2000 Summer Olympics , he was already in fifth place. From summer 2006 he ran for SG Flensburg-Handewitt . On September 26, 2006 Frank von Behren tore a cruciate ligament in the DHB Cup game between SG Flensburg-Handewitt and local rivals DHK Flensborg , which meant that he had to take a six-month break. That's why he was missing from the German team at the 2007 World Cup . After his recovery, von Behren was never really able to assert himself at Flensburg. Thereupon he let his contract with the Fördestädtern dissolve in January 2008 and joined his old association GWD Minden. For the European Championship 2008 von Behren was initially not in the squad. But after Oliver Roggisch tore a muscle fiber in the last main round match, von Behren was nominated for the semifinals on January 26, 2008. After a broken thumb and a shoulder injury, Frank von Behren officially ended his active career on August 1, 2008.

From October 2008 von Behren studied business administration in Oldenburg. After graduating, he worked in management at GWD Minden. Since 2011 he has worked as a players agent with his own agency. He was a co-commentator on Champions League games for the television broadcaster Eurosport from 2008-2014, and has been an expert for Sky since 2014 .

In January 2016 Frank von Behren took over the position of assistant coach at the Bundesliga club Bergischer HC .

Since January 2017 he has been working again in the management of his old association GWD Minden.

Frank von Behren is married to the journalist Sarah von Behren .
