SKA Minsk ( Russian Спортивный Клуб Армии (СКА Минск) , transcribed Sportiwny Klub Armii (SKA Minsk) , in German Sports Club of the Army Minsk ) is a Belarusian handball club from the capital Minsk .

The club was founded in 1976 and, under the leadership of coach Spartak Mironowitsch, his team quickly rose to become one of the strongest men's teams in the Soviet Union . Already in 1983 you could win the European Cup Winners' Cup . In the finals they beat Dinamo Bucharest. In the subsequent match for the club championship they lost in Munich the VfL Gummersbach narrowly with 16:17.

As a result, Mironowitsch was able to add highly talented backcourt players to the already existing strong winger, consisting of Aljaksandr Karschakewitsch (left winger ) and Juri Schewzow (right winger ). These were among others Mikhail Jakimowitsch and Aleksandr Tutschkin . From 1987 onwards they won the European Cup after the European Cup. In 1987, 1989 and 1990 he won the European Champion Clubs' Cup . In addition, the European Cup Winners' Cup was won once in 1988 . With the final victory in this competition on May 21, 1988, the club held the title in the two highest European Cup competitions for two days, until CSKA Moscow won the final second leg in the European Cup against TUSEM Essen on May 23 .

With the political change this exceptional team disintegrated. Between 1990 and 1992 important top performers left the association. Another great success was achieved in 1992 with participation in the final in the IHF Cup . Subsequently, the club remained the clear number one in their own country for a while. In the meantime, Brest GK Meschkow and Minsk city rivals HC Dinamo Minsk gained the upper hand in the Belarusian league. In 2013 the club succeeded in winning the EHF Challenge Cup . This makes SKA Minsk one of only seven clubs that have won three different European Cups and with six European Cup victories together with THW Kiel and SC Magdeburg, it is the third most successful club in Europe after FC Barcelona (14) and VfL Gummersbach (11 titles).
