The Gießen-Ost sports hall is a multi-purpose hall in the Hessian university town of Gießen . In addition to the school sports of the Gießen-Ost comprehensive school, the home games of the German Bundesliga club Gießen 46ers take place in the hall. In addition, the hall can be used for events such as concerts or theater as well as other sports (including badminton , handball , gymnastics ).
In season 2017/18 the Central Hessian Handball club wore TV 05/07 Hüttenberg in the 1. Bundesliga most of its home games in the East Hall of Giessen (capacity Handball: about 2600).
history
The hall, built in the 1960s, initially offered space for 3,150 spectators (approx. 1,800 seats); in a 15-month renovation from October 2005 to January 2007, the capacity was increased to 4003 spectators, but was reduced again to 3752 in 2015. 150 pupils from the East School can now eat in the hall's foyer, which has been expanded as a cafeteria. The conversion cost around 5.2 million euros. On 12./13. May 2007 the German indoor cycling championship took place in the east hall, from July 20th to 22nd 2007 the German gymnastics championship took place. On June 16, 1978, the DHB Cup final between VfL Gummersbach and TV Hüttenberg was held in this hall in front of around 3000 spectators.
On December 20, 2008 the hall was sold out for the first time after the renovation at the Hessenderby against the Skyliners Frankfurt with 4003 spectators. The hall is nicknamed Gutt Stubb (good room) and "Osthalle" by the locals .
