The edel-optics.de Arena ( Inselparkhalle until May 2017 ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Wilhelmsburg district of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg . In addition to a sports hall , the building also houses a swimming pool . The hall is, among other things, the venue for the home games of the first division basketball team Hamburg Towers . The owner of the sports hall is the Benno and Inge Behrens Foundation. The operator is the InselAkademie Sport- und Schulungszentrum Wilhelmsburg GmbH, whose shareholders are Jan Fischer , Jochen Franzke, Tomislav Karajica and Marvin Willoughby .

history

The sports hall was originally an exhibition site that was built for the 2013 International Garden Show (IGA). Construction began in October 2011 and was completed in spring 2013. Work on the swimming pool began in June 2011 and was completed in May 2013.

After the garden show, the hall was converted into a sports hall for 14 million euros, of which the Benno and Inge Behrens Foundation took over 6 million, the IBA Hamburg 4.5 million and the City of Hamburg 3.5 million. The hall was inaugurated at the end of October 2014 with a home game for the Hamburg Towers basketball team, but the conversion work was not fully completed until November 2014. The building owners of the sports hall were the Benno and Inge Behrens Foundation and the IBA Hamburg, the project planning was in the hands of ArchitectsPartner Hamburg. The building owner of the swimming pool was Bäderland Hamburg GmbH . The company Allmann Sattler Wappner Architects from Munich was responsible for the “concept and design of the facade, roof and supporting structure, artistic management, general planning”. The implementation on site was carried out by the company bs2architekten from Hamburg.

In May 2017, the Hamburg optics company Edeloptics GmbH became the name sponsor of the hall, and the name changed to edel-optics.de Arena.

use

The edel-optics.de arena serves, among other things, as a venue for sporting events such as the home games of the professional basketball team of the Hamburg Towers and the wheelchair basketball team of the BG Baskets Hamburg and offers a spectator capacity of 3400 seats, including 2800 seats. In August 2015, the Basketball Supercup was held in the Inselparkhalle with the national teams of Turkey , Poland , Latvia and Germany . The Supercup was awarded again to Hamburg in the Inselparkhalle for 2017 and 2018. From August 18-20, 2017, the German national team will face Serbia , Russia and Poland.

In December 2015 there was a professional boxing evening, including the fight between Jack Culcay-Keth and Dennis Hogan for the WBA interim world championship in super welterweight.

In May 2016 the Inselparkhalle hosted the European Darts Matchplay . The first official international matches of the German national futsal team took place in the hall on October 30 and November 1, 2016 .

From 16 to 26 August 2018, the games of the wheelchair basketball world championship were played in the hall.

In addition to sporting events, the building is also used for congresses, concerts and meetings.
