Jack Robert Culcay-Keth (born September 26, 1985 in Ambato , Ecuador ), known as Jack Culcay , is a German professional boxer with an Ecuadorian migration background . He became International Champion of the WBO in November 2019 and is a former WBA world light middleweight champion.
Life
Culcay was born in 1985 to an Ecuadorian and his German wife in Ambato , Ecuador . He came to Germany with his family at the age of five and speaks fluent Spanish and German . In 2006 he began his basic military service with the German Armed Forces and then became a regular soldier (last rank of corporal ).
Jack Culcay lives with his girlfriend Anna Grazie (Miss Berlin 2014) in Berlin. They have a daughter together.
Amateur career (1997-2009)
As the son of an enthusiastic amateur boxer, he began boxing in 1997 at the age of 12. Culcay-Keth started for TG 75 Darmstadt as a welterweight and had a record of 81 fights in 2007, of which he won 50. When chemistry Cup in 2007 he beat the well-assessed Frenchman Xavier Noël , but lost in the final against Alexander Miller. He was then nominated by the DBV for the 14th Amateur World Championships in Chicago, surprisingly made it to the quarter-finals there in October 2007 and only failed on local hero and eventual winner Demetrius Andrade . At the German Championship 2007 he won the final against Rinat Karimow with 15:10 on points and thus his first national championship.
Culcay-Keth started for Germany in the welterweight division at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In the first round he met the 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, Kim Jung-joo from South Korea, where he was disputedly eliminated from the tournament. After a cautious start, Culcay-Keth was decisive in the fight, but had to accept hits again and again, so that at the end of the fight it was a draw on points 11:11 and the Korean could prevail on auxiliary points. In November 2008 Culcay-Keth finished second at the European Championships in Liverpool . With wins against the Ukrainian Dmytro Mytrofanow (15: 3), the Irish William McLaughlin (7: 2), the Russians Alexander Rakislow (6: 3) and Jaoid Chiguer from France (9: 1) he moved into the final, where he was defeated by the Belarusian Mahamed Nurudsinau due to an injury-related battle in the third round.
At the 15th World Amateur Championships in Milan in 2009 , Culcay-Keth won the welterweight gold medal. He beat the Egyptian Hosam Bakr Abdin (10: 5) in the preliminary round, the Argentine Brian Castano (14: 5) in the second round, the Danes Torben Keller (5: 2) in the quarter-finals and the Uzbek Boturjon Mahmudov (6: 6) in the semi-finals. 4). In the final he prevailed against the Russian Andrei Samkowoi with 7: 4 points. He became the first German amateur world champion in boxing since 1995.

Professional career (since 2009)
Jack Culcay-Keth signed a six-year contract with Universum Box Promotion on November 11, 2009 , where he was trained by Michael Timm . After the seventh fight in the service of Universum, Culcay-Keth has terminated his contract with Universum Box-Promotion with immediate effect. The reasons for the end of the cooperation were in particular the non-fulfillment of contractual obligations on the part of Universum and the lack of sporting and economic prospects for Culcay at Universum. In February 2012, Culcay then signed a contract with Sauerland Event .
WBA intercontinental champion in the light middleweight division
On August 25, 2012, Culcay won the intercontinental title of the WBA by TKo victory against Frederic Serre (13-6) and defended it early against Mark Thompson (24-1) and Jean Michel Hamilcaro (17-4). In his third title defense he lost the belt on April 27, 2013 by a narrow point defeat to Argentina-born Spaniard Guido Nicolas Pitto (17-1). Shortly before, Fritz Sdunek had replaced the previous coach Ismael Salas. In the rematch against Pitto (18-1) on October 26, 2013, he regained the title, this time there was also a narrow point decision. Before successfully defending his title on December 14, 2013 against Frenchman Dieudonne Belinga (11-3), Culcay changed coach again and has been looked after by British Gary Logan since then.
EBU European title in light middleweight
On August 16, 2014, Culcay-Keth won the EBU European Championship against Isaac Real (10-0-1) .
WBA interim light middleweight champion
On May 9, 2015, Culcay-Keth won the WBA interim world title against Maurice Weber (21-1-1) . He is the mandatory challenger of the world champion Erislandy Lara . He defended this title on December 5, 2015 against the Australian Dennis Hogan (22-0-1). In another title defense he met Venezuelan Jean Carlos Prada (31-1-1) on April 9, 2016, he defended this title by giving up his opponent after the 10th round.
WBA light middleweight champion
In June 2016 he became the new world light middleweight champion, as his mandatory challenger Erislandy Lara (23-2-2) rose to superchampion . On March 11, 2017, Culcay-Keth lost his World Cup title defense against Demetrius Andrade (23-0).
New management, different weight class
In January 2018 he announced the end of his collaboration with Sauerland Event in an interview , after which he moved to the new Berlin boxing stable AGON Sports & Events GmbH & Co. KG , and he is now boxing in the middleweight division. He won his first fight at his new boxing stable on March 10, 2018 against Brit Craig Cunningham (19-2).
EBU European Middleweight Championship
On June 9, 2018, he defeated the Spaniard Adasat Rodriguez (17-7-2) by TKO in the 6th round and this victory made him European middleweight champion.
IBF international middleweight champion
On September 22, 2018, he defeated the Dominican native Rafael Bejaran (25-2-1) on points and became IBF international middleweight champion.
IBF World Championship decision in the middleweight division
On April 13, 2019 in Minneapolis (Minnesota) he lost the IBF Middleweight World Championship eliminator on points against the Ukrainian Serhij Derewjantschenko (12-1) and thus missed the chance of a World Championship fight against the IBF World Champion Daniel Jacobs ( 35-2).
Return to light middleweight
After his missed World Cup chance against the Ukrainian Serhij Derewjantschenko (13-1) in the middleweight division, he switched back to his former weight class in the light middleweight division. On his return, he met the Italian Stefano Castellucci (32-8) on June 15, 2019. He won this fight unanimously on points.
WBO international light middleweight champion
He won on points against Jama Saidi (16-0) in an international WBO title fight on points in November 2019 . He was able to defend the title on June 12, 2020 against the French Howard Cospolite (18-7-3) with a unanimous win on points.
