Lorenzo Aragon

Lorenzo Aragón Armenteros (born April 28, 1974 in Santa Isabel de las Lajas , Cienfuegos Province ) is a former Cuban boxer . Aragón was world champion in 2001 and 2003 and silver medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games .

Career

In the junior division (U19), Aragón became world champion in flyweight (-51 kg) in 1992 .

At the national championships Aragón won bronze in 1991, then he won the title ten times between 1992 and 2004. He is the only boxer who managed to do this in six different weight classes. His 2000 final victory over Roberto Guerra (up to 63.5 kg) was later revoked by the association in a highly controversial process, despite the unanimous vote of the judges, which prevented him from participating in the Olympic boxing tournament in Sydney .

In 1994 Aragón took part in the Pan American Championships and was able to win this featherweight (-57 kg) with a final victory over Yoni Vargas Martínez ( Mexico ) (9: 7).
