Noureddine Medjehoud ( Arabic نور الدين مجهود; * December 24, 1975 ) is a former Algerian boxer, vice world champion from 1995 and Olympian from 1996 and 2000.

Boxing career

In July 1992 he won the Balaton Cup in Siófok , defeating Matthias Hamann from Germany (12: 8), Laszlo Komjathi from Hungary (18:12) and Alexander Maletin from Russia (32:17) in the flyweight division . In October of the same year he also started at the 7th Junior World Championships in Montreal , where he was defeated by the later silver medalist Cristian Boiteanu from Romania (5-7).

In 1994 he finished second in featherweight at the 9th African Championships in Johannesburg . In June of the same year he also took part in the 7th World Cup in Bangkok , where he won the preliminary round against Mahamatkadir Abdullajew from Uzbekistan (6: 3), but then suffered a defeat against Joel Casamayor from Cuba (3:11).

His greatest success came at the 8th World Championships in May 1995 in Berlin , where he won the silver medal in the featherweight division. He controlled it in the first round Maciej Zegan from Poland (9: 7), in the second round the outstanding Mayweather Floyd Jr. of the United States (8: 6), in the quarterfinals Ulugbek Ibragimov from Uzbekistan (9: 6) and in the semifinals Vidas Bičiulaitis from Lithuania (10: 1). Only in the final fight, he was defeated by Serafim Todorow from Bulgaria (4:10). He became the only Algerian medalist at the World Cup, as his compatriots Hocine Soltani , Mohamed Bahari , Mohamed Benguesmia and Abdelaziz Boulahia had already been eliminated on the way to the semi-finals. He was thus the first Algerian boxer who could advance to a final at world championships. It was not until 2013 that another Algerian ( Mohamed Flissi ) was able to reach a World Cup final.

In May 1996 he won the African Olympic qualification by winning the final against the Moroccan Mohamed Achik , bronze medalist at the 1992 Olympic Games. Thus, he started in featherweight at the 26th Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, but was eliminated in the first fight against the Cuban Lorenzo Aragón (6 : 9) off.

In June 1997 he won after an auxiliary point defeat in the final against the Turks Serdar Yağlı (2: 2+), the silver medal in the featherweight division of the 13th Mediterranean Games in Bari . In September 1999 he won the 7th Pan-African Games in Johannesburg at featherweight .

He then took part in the 27th Summer Olympic Games in Sydney in September 2000 , but lost there again in the first fight against Jeffrey Mathebula from South Africa (5:10).

In 2001 he played three professional fights in Australia, but he lost.
