Mohamed Flissi (* 13. February 1990 in Boumerdes ) is an Algerian boxer in the flyweight .

Career

The 1.72 m tall left-wing boom Mohamed Flissi began boxing in 2004 and developed into one of the best boxers in Africa.

Continental championships

In 2011 he won the silver medal at the Arab Championships in Doha and the African Games in Maputo . In 2013 he won the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin by beating Manuel Cappai and Ferhat Pehlivan . In 2014 he won the Africa Nations Cup, and in 2015 the African Championships in Casablanca and the African Games in Brazzaville .

He won further gold medals at the 2017 African Championships in Brazzaville and the 2019 Arab Championships in Khartoum .

World Championships and Olympic Games

In 2010 he won a bronze medal at the World Combat Games in China and took part in the 2011 World Championships in Baku , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Thomas Essomba . In 2012 he won the African Olympic qualification by beating Peter Mungai , Sulemanu Tetteh , this time also Thomas Essomba and Abdelali Daraa . At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 he was defeated in the first fight against Kaew Pongprayoon .

In 2013 he won the silver medal at the World Championships in Almaty after losing to Birschan Schaqypow in the final . He had previously prevailed against Joselito Velásquez , Lü Bin , Patrick Lourenço and David Jiménez . He finished the 2015 World Championships in Doha with a bronze medal after he was eliminated in the semifinals against Elvin Məmişzadə . In the quarterfinals he again defeated David Jiménez.

In 2016 he qualified at the African elimination bouts in Cameroon for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There he beat European champion Daniel Asenow in the round of 16 and lost to Yoel Finol in the quarter-finals .

In 2017 he started at the World Championships in Hamburg , where he was knocked out 2: 3 in the round of 16 against Kavinder Singh Bisht. At the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg he defeated Ilunga Doudou, but then retired again just 3-2 against Yosvany Veitía .

World Series of Boxing

Flissi fought for the Algeria Desert Hawks in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) from 2012 to 2014 . He fought there six fights with three wins and three losses.

AIBA Pro Boxing

In 2014/15 he boxed in the semi-professional APB series and won two out of six fights.
