Peter Mungai Warui (born April 22, 1981 in Nairobi ) is a Kenyan boxer and 2016 Olympic participant in the light flyweight division .

Career

Peter Mungai was among other things a participant in the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and 2010, as well as a quarter-finalist in the African Games in 2011 and 2015. At the Commonwealth Championships in 2010 he won the silver medal in the light flyweight division.

At the 2009 World Championships he defeated Paddy Barnes , but was eliminated in the second round against Daniel Matellón. In the 2012 African Olympic qualification, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Mohamed Flissi . In the second preliminary round of the 2013 World Championships, he lost to Kim In-kyu .

In the African Olympic qualification in 2016, he defeated Sulemanu Tetteh , but lost to Simplique Fotchala and Sibusiso Bandla. However, since Fotchala won the tournament, Mungai was qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games as a boxer knocked out in the quarterfinals . At the Olympics he defeated Lü Bin in the round of 16 , but lost in the quarter-finals to reigning world champion Joahnys Argilagos .
