World Boxing Championships 2013
The 17th World Amateur Boxing Championships took place from October 14th to 26th under the supervision of the World Amateur Boxing Association AIBA in the former Kazakh capital of Almaty .
The contract was signed by the President of AIBA Ching-Kuo Wu and the President of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation (KBF) Timur Kulibajew on April 12, 2012. The world championship coincided with the opening of the World Boxing Academy in Almaty . The fights were held in the "Baluan Sholak" sports palace, which was renovated in 2011. 576 boxers from 116 countries were registered, which was a new record in terms of number of participants and participating countries.
A special feature of this world championship was the fact that it was the first time since the late 1980s that boxing took place without head protection. In addition, the Ten-Point-Must-System , known from professional boxing, was introduced for the first time .
