Yasniel Toledo López (born September 15, 1989 in Camagüey , also called Yasnier in some sources ) is a Cuban boxer .

Career

In the youth field, Toledo took part in the world championships (U17) in 2005 and 2006, where he became world champion in bantamweight in 2005 and won the silver medal in 2006.

Toledo won his first international men's tournament in 2007 in Istanbul with a final victory over Husseyin Dundar, Turkey (12: 9). In the same year Toledo was the first time Cuban champions with a final victory over Roelkis Herrera (9: 4) in the bantamweight (-54 kg). He was able to repeat this success in 2010 and 2011 in the lightweight (-60 kg) with final victories over Antonio Bisset (11: 4) and Lorenzo Sotomayor (27:18).

2009 Toledo took the first time at the world championships in the featherweight (-57 kg) in part and failed after wins over Robson Conceicao , Brazil (21: 7), Sandro Schaer, Germany (14: 5) and Luis Porozo, Ecuador (11: 3) Quarter-finals against later vice world champion Sergei Wodopjanow , Russia (10: 4).

At the Pan American Championships 2010 in Quito , Toledo won the gold medal with a final victory over Jose Pedraza, Puerto Rico (8: 3). At the Pan American Games the following year, Toledo won the gold medal with a final victory over Robson Conceicao, Brazil (16:11).

In 2011 Toledo won the world runner-up title with victories over Angel Gutierrez, Mexico (13: 8), Luke Jackson , Australia (11:10), Sailom Ardee, Thailand (20: 9), in the quarterfinals against Han Soon-chul , South Korea (15: 10) and in the semifinals over Ghani Schajlauow , Kazakhstan (21: 9), and with a final defeat against Vasyl Lomatschenko , Ukraine (17:12). This qualified him for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . In December 2011 he became Cuban champion with a final victory over Lorenzo Sotomayor (27:18).

At the Olympic Games, Toledo defeated Liu Qiang , China (14:10) in the round of 16 and Ghani Schajlauow , Kazakhstan (19:11) in the quarterfinals , but lost in the semifinals to eventual Olympic champion Vasyl Lomatschenko , Ukraine (14:11), and won the Olympic bronze medal.

After the Olympic Games Toledo switched to light welterweight (-64 kg) and became Cuban champion in 2012 with a victory over Jorge Moiran Vinet (22:15).

In April 2013, the provincial administration of the sports federation INDER in Camagüey announced the imposition of a one-year ban on Toledo due to unspecified “indiscipline”. The suspension prevented him from participating in the international Córdova Cardín boxing tournament in Havana in June. After the ban was lifted early, Toledo was nominated again for the international match in Mexico at the end of August. In October he also took part in the World Championships in Almaty . Toledo reached here after Siegen u. a. against the European champions 2013 Armen Sakarjan , Russia (3: 0), the third of the Asian Championships 2013 Manoj Kumar, India (3: 0), and Urantschimegiin Mönch-Erdene , Mongolia (3: 0), the final. In this he was defeated by the Kazakhs Merei Aqschalow with 3-0 judges votes.

In 2014, Toledo won the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz . The following year he reached the final of the Pan American Games in Toronto again . In this he faced the local hero Artur Biarslanov, to whom he was defeated with 2: 1 judges' votes.

At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Russian Vitaly Dunaizew .

World Series of Boxing

With the first start of the Cuban boxing team as Cuba Domadores in the World Series of Boxing in the 2013/14 season, Yasniel Toledo also fought in this world league. In his first season he won five out of seven fights in which he was used. He suffered a defeat in the final against the Azerbaijan Baku Fires . His opponent was Gaybatulla Hajialiyev to whom he was defeated by 2-1 judges' votes. The Cuba Domadores won the title despite this defeat.

In the 2015 season, Toledo was used in six out of seven regular season bouts and won all of them. He finished first in the ranking of his weight class this season and qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games . In the final fight between the Cuba Domadores and the Astana Arlans, Toledo lost and his team could not defend their title either.
