Armen Igitowitsch Sakarjan ( Russian Армен Игитович Закарян ; * 1989 in Semipalatinsk , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian light welterweight boxer .

Career

amateur

Sakarian was the 2011 Russian U22 light welterweight champion.

In 2011 he took part in an international tournament in Yerevan for the first time and achieved third place. The following year he won the prestigious Bee Gee tournament in Helsinki and was the first Russian light welterweight champion.

At the 2013 European Championships in Minsk , he won the light welterweight medal after defeating Josh Taylor from Scotland, Sam Maxwell from England, Abdelmalik Ladjali from France and Dmitri Galagot from Moldova on the way to the title . At the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , he won in the preliminary round against Vadász András from Hungary, but was subsequently defeated in the round of 16 against the eventual vice world champion Yasniel Toledo from Cuba.

In the 2013-14 season, Sakarian fought twice for the Russian Boxing Team in the World Series of Boxing and won both fights.

At the Russian Championships in 2014, Sakarian lost in the final against Vitaly Dunaitsew . For this he won the 2015 Russian Championships in Samara .

AIBA Pro Boxing

Since October 2014 Sakarian starts in the newly founded professional area "APB" of the IOC recognized world association AIBA. In the first cycle Sakarian was able to win his three fights against Vyacheslav Kyslytsyn (Ukraine), Artem Harutiunian (Germany) and Juan Pablo Romero (Mexico) and stood on January 31, 2015 in the final of the "APB" light welterweight in Novosibirsk against the Harutiunian. He won this fight with three times 78:74 points. This qualified Sakarian for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
