Artem Harutiunian ( Armenian Արտեմ Հարությունյան Artem Harutjunjan , English transcription Artem Harutyunyan ; born August 13, 1990 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a German boxer of Armenian origin.

Career

Harutiunian learned boxing at the TH-Eilbeck . In 2008 he won the bronze medal in the light welterweight (up to 64 kg) at the renowned international junior tournament (U-19) Brandenburgcup . In 2009 he won the national U-21 championships and was able to defend this title in 2010. At the national men's championships in 2011, he won the German championship title for the first time. In 2012 Harutiunian took part in the European Olympic qualification tournament in Trabzon , but was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the Frenchman Chabane Fehim. At the chemistry cup in the same year, he took third place.

In December 2012, Harutiunian took part in the U-22 European Championships in Kaliningrad , which was held for the first time , but was eliminated in the first fight against Olympian Heybatulla Hajialiyev, Azerbaijan (17:11). In his second participation in the chemistry cup in Halle , Harutiunian reached the final in 2013, but was defeated in this by the Kazakh Merey Ashkalov.

Harutiunian celebrated his greatest success to date at the European Championships in 2013 . After victories over Clarence Goyeram , Sweden (3: 0), Arturs Ahmetovs, Latvia (3: 0), and Hüseyin Karslioglu, Turkey (2: 1), he reached the semi-finals, which he did very closely against Dmitri Galagot , Republic of Moldova (2: 1), lost and won a bronze medal in light welterweight (up to 64 kg). Shortly thereafter, Harutiunian also took part in the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , but lost after two preliminary round victories in the round of 16 against the Brazilian Éverton Lopes with 2-1 judges votes.

In the 2012/13 season Harutiunian fought for the Velberter BC 22 in the 1st Boxing Bundesliga and with his four wins in five fights he had a large share in his team's title win.

World Series of Boxing

In the 2013/14 season Harutiunian played three fights for Team Germany in the World Series of Boxing , of which he won two.

AIBA Pro Boxing (APB)

Since October 2014, Harutiunian has started in the newly founded professional area "APB" of the IOC recognized world association AIBA . In the first cycle Harutiunian was able to win against Boris Georgiew and Abdelkader Chadi , but lost to Armen Sakarjan . In the fight for the world title of the APB he faced Sakarjan again on January 31, to whom he was defeated with 3-0 judges' votes. In the second cycle, Harutiunian won against Evaldas Petrauskas and again against Abdelkader Chadi, so that he qualified for the second time for the title fight of the APB against Sakarjan and thus also for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There he won a bronze medal in the light welterweight division, having previously been eliminated in the semifinals against Collazo Sotomayor . He had previously defeated Arthur Biyarslanov and Batuhan Gözgeç. It was the first Olympic medal by a German boxer since Vitali Tajbert's bronze medal in 2004.

For this win he received the silver bay leaf on November 1, 2016 .

Others

Harutiunian also has the 2nd Dan (black belt) in Taekwondo . He has been the German youth and junior champion several times in this sport and won a silver medal at the U15 European Championships in 2005.
