Evaldas Petrauskas (* 19th March 1992 in Šilutė ) is a Lithuanian professional boxer in the Light Welterweight . As an amateur, he won a bronze medal in the lightweight at the 2012 Olympic Games .

Amateur career

The 1.64 m tall attacking boxer became the national featherweight junior champion in 2008, the lightweight Lithuanian junior champion in 2010, the lightweight Lithuanian champion in 2011 and the light welterweight champion in 2015.

At the 2007 European Cadet Championships in Hungary , he won the silver medal in the bantamweight division, after losing to Vitaly Dunaizew in the final. In 2008 he won the gold medal in featherweight at the European Cadet Championships in Bulgaria . He beat Tamerlan Abdullajew in the final fight 16: 3 on points. Also at the European Youth Championships in Poland in 2009 he won the gold medal in the lightweight, after he had prevailed clearly against Airin Ismetow, Erich Fuhr, Gajbatulla Hajialijew and Kiril Romantsjewitsch.

At the 2010 World Youth Championships in Azerbaijan , he won the silver medal in the lightweight category after losing just 3: 4 to Vikas Krishan in the final . He had previously defeated Im Sung-Hwan, Brett Mather, Donato Cosenza and Kamran Bachschalijew. In the same year he also started in the lightweight at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and won another gold medal. He had defeated Thomas Vahrenholdt in the quarter-finals, defeated Vikas Krishan in the subsequent semi-finals and prevailed again 13: 4 against Brett Mather in the final.

In 2011 he was eliminated from the World Championships in Baku against Jai Bhagwan. In 2012 he took part in the European Olympic qualification in Turkey . He defeated in the lightweight Eric Pambani 24:10, Tomas Vano 13: 8 and David Joyce 19:10. His semi- final opponent Fatih Keleş and his final opponent Wasgen Safarjanz did not take part in the fight ( walkover ) , whereby Petrauskas automatically achieved first place. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , he won his first fight against Miklós Varga clearly with 20:12 on points. In the round of 16 he also defeated Fatih Keleş 16:12. In the quarterfinals he defeated Domenico Valentino 16:14 and was thus in the semifinals, where he was defeated by Han Soon-chul 13:18 and thus retired from the games with a bronze medal in the lightweight. In December 2012 Petrauskas still won the silver medal in the light welterweight division at the first U22 European Championships in Kaliningrad, Russia .

At the 2013 European Championships in Minsk , he started in the light welterweight division and won against Zdeněk Chládek , but was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Abdelmalik Ladjali . Also at the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Éverton Lopes , having previously defeated Wuttichai Masuk and Dmitri Galagot . In the quarter -finals of the 2014 EU Championships in Sofia , he was eliminated by Vincenzo Mangiacapre .

In 2015 Petrauskas won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Samokow after losing to Pat McCormack in the semifinals . At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Danielito Zorrilla .

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he was eliminated in the first fight against Manoj Kumar . He finished the 2017 European Championships in Kharkiv with a bronze medal and thus qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he lost in the first fight against Arthur Biyarslanov .

World Series of Boxing

In the 2013/14 season Petrauskas played two fights for the Ukrainian Otamans in the World Series of Boxing, of which he won one.
