Fatih Keleş (born November 27, 1989 in Trabzon ) is a Turkish professional boxer and former WBO European light welterweight champion . As an amateur, he was European champion 2011 and Olympic competitor 2012 in the lightweight.
Amateur career
Fatih Keleş became Turkish champion in 2011, winning the Feliks Stamm Tournament in Warsaw and the European Championships in Ankara . At the European Championship he had prevailed against Marin Dragoş, Elvin İsayev, Souleymane Cissokho , Vladimir Saruhanyan and Domenico Valentino . At the 2011 World Championships in Baku , he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Liu Qiang.
In 2012 he won the European Olympic qualification in Trabzon with victories against Ivan Obradovic, Elvin İsayev and Sam Maxwell at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . There he beat Abdelkader Chadi in the preliminary round before losing to Evaldas Petrauskas at 12:16 in the round of 16 .
In 2013 he again won the Feliks Stamm Tournament in Warsaw, where he won against Arthur Biyarslanov , Dmitri Galagot , Jonathan Alonso and Avak Uzlyan. At the Mediterranean Games in Mersin in 2013 he defeated Khodor Antar, Hassan Amzile and Alexandros Tsanikidis, before losing to Abdelkader Chadi in the final this time and winning silver. He also started at the 2013 World Championships in Almaty and defeated Denis Okoth, but lost 2-1 to Manoj Kumar in the second fight .
At the 2015 European Championships in Samokow , he defeated Maksim Vilde and lost to Pat McCormack in the round of 16 .
Professional career
Keleş won his professional debut on April 24, 2016 in Hamburg . He is under contract with EC Boxpromotion from Hamburg, his trainer is Bülent Başer .
After eight victories in a row, he won the WBO European light welterweight title in Hamburg on May 19, 2017 with a unanimous win on points against the native Armenian Rafik Harutjunjan. In the same year he narrowly defended the title twice, once by a draw and once by a majority decision on points against the Frenchman Renald Garrido. In May 2018, his fight against Russian champions Maxim Tschurbanow ended in the second round without evaluation after the Russian was injured by an accidental headbutt.
On June 8, 2019, he lost on points against Liam Paro in Broadbeach, Australia . The fight was for the titles IBF International and WBO Global.
