Domenico Valentino (* 17th May 1984 in Marcianise at Caserta ) is an Italian professional boxer in the lightweight .

As an amateur, he was one of the most successful boxers in Italian sports history. Among other things, he was World Champion 2009 and AIBA Boxer of the Year, Vice World Champion 2007, and bronze medalist at the World Championships in 2005, 2011 and 2013. In 2004, 2008 and 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games and reached the quarter-finals twice.

Amateur career

EU championships

Domenico Valentino won the gold medal at the EU championships in Madrid in 2004 , in Cagliari in 2005 and in Pécs in 2006 , with Mariusz Koperski, Marios Kaperonis, Constantino Onis, Samet Huseinow, Frankie Gavin , Krzysztof Szot, Miklós Varga , Hüsnü Kocabaş and Selçuk twice Aydın could defeat. In 2007 in Dublin he won bronze after losing to Daouda Sow in the semi-final , after previously beating Doncho Gadschiew and Eric Donovan .

European championships

The bronze medal won in 2013 was his fifth consecutive World Cup medal. Only Félix Savón won more world championship medals (7).

Olympic games

Domenico Valentino represented Italy three times at the Olympic Games . 2004 in Athens he came against Mohammad Asheri in the quarterfinals, but lost in the medal ranks against Serik Jeleuow . World Series of Boxing

Since the first season (2010/2011) Valentino fought for Italia Thunder in the World Series of Boxing . He won four of his five fights that season, but Milan failed to qualify for the playoffs. In the following season, Milan won the title and Valentino had two wins in three fights. The 2012/2013 season ended for Milan in the semi-finals of the playoffs. Valentino won two of his three fights in the regular season. In the quarterfinals of the playoffs he won, in the semifinals he lost to Vasyl Lomatschenko . In 2013/14 he reached the quarterfinals with his team, winning all of his three fights.

In the WSB he defeated Albert Selimow , Reda Benbaziz , David Joyce and Josh Taylor, among others .

AIBA Pro Boxing

In 2014/15 he started in the newly created pro boxing series of the amateur association AIBA and won two fights against Artur Bril , but suffered two defeats against Charly Suarez and was also defeated by Dmitri Poljanski and David Joyce .

Professional career

Domenico Valentino made his professional debut on May 20, 2017 with a points win against Davide Cali. In September 2018 he beat Benoit Manno and became Italian lightweight champion. In the fight for the EBU European Championship, he lost on points against Francesco Patera in October 2019.
