Reda Benbaziz (* 9. September 1993 in Bejaia ) is an Algerian boxer in the lightweight . He is 1.84 m tall and southpaw .

Career

Benbaziz was a participant in the 2009 Junior World Championships in Armenia and the 2010 World Youth Championships in Azerbaijan .

In 2010 he reached 7th place at the World Combat Games in China and won a bronze medal at the Arab Championships in Qatar in 2011 . At the African Games 2011 in Mozambique he was only defeated in the final against Bruno Julie 8: 8+ and thus won the silver medal. In the semifinals he had defeated Ayabonga Sonjica . At the 2011 Arab Championships in Qatar, he again won a bronze medal.

In 2013 he won the Mediterranean Games in Turkey , defeating Aboubakr Lbida , Mehmet Topçakan and Hesham Yehia. At the 2013 World Championships in Kazakhstan , he was eliminated in the second fight against Robenilson de Jesus .

In 2014/15 he boxed for the Algeria Desert Hawks team in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) and won five out of eight fights, including against Detelin Dalakliew , Adlan Abduraschidow and Lindolfo Delgado . He suffered two of his defeats against Domenico Valentino and Lázaro Álvarez . In 2015 he also won the African Games in the Republic of the Congo and the African Championships in Morocco . At the 2015 World Championships in Qatar, he lost the first duel against Elnur Abduraimov .

In 2016, he was able to qualify for the Olympic Games in Brazil at the African eliminations in Cameroon with a win against Nick Okoth . At the Olympics he defeated Mahmoud Abdelaal and Adlan Abduraschidow before he was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Dordschnjambuugiin Otgondalai in 7th place.

At the 2017 African Championships in the Republic of Congo, he won the silver medal after losing 3-2 in the final against Nick Okoth. He was qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Germany , where he lost to Luis Cabrera in the round of 16 .

At the Mediterranean Games in Spain in 2018, he won a bronze medal in the lightweight.
