Bruno Louis Richard Julie (born July 11, 1978 ) is a former Mauritian boxer and current boxing trainer. He won at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing , a bronze medal in the bantamweight and is therefore so far the only Mauritian medalist at the Olympic Games.

Boxing career

The approximately 1.75 m tall southpaw comes from Beau Bassin-Rose Hill and is the most successful boxer in his country's sports history. He won the silver medal at the African Championships in Mauritius in 2001 and in Cameroon in 2003 , as well as at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia . At the 2007 African Cup of Nations in Madagascar , he won the gold medal and defeated Abdelhalim Ouradi in the final.

The Africa Games in 2007 in Algeria , he won bronze at the Commonwealth Championships 2007 in England gold. He also defeated the eventual Olympic champion Luke Campbell . At the 2007 World Cup in the USA he came against Francisco Castillejo and Orzubek Shayimov in the round of 16, where he was defeated by Joseph Murray .

At the African Olympic qualification in Namibia in 2008 he was able to fight for a starting place for the 2008 Olympic Games . At the Olympics he defeated Thabiso Nketu 17: 8, Xurshid Tojiboyev 16: 4 and Héctor Manzanilla 13: 9, before he lost in the semifinals 5: 7 to Yankiel León and was eliminated with a bronze medal.

In 2009 he won silver at the African Championship in Mauritius and the Francophone Games in Lebanon , and in 2010 bronze at the Commonwealth Championship and the Commonwealth Games in India .

In 2011 he again won silver at the African Championships in Cameroon and the gold medal at the 2011 African Games in Mozambique . He beat Reda Benbaziz in the final . At the 2011 World Cup he lost in the first fight against Bashir Hassan .

In the 2012 African Olympic qualification in Morocco , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Romeo Lemboumba .
