Ayabonga Sonjica

Ayabonga Sonjica (born June 27, 1991 in East London , Cape Province ) is a South African boxer and 2012 Olympic bantamweight participant .

Boxing career

Ayabonga Sonjica was South African champion in 2010 and 2011. He won a bronze medal at the 2011 African Games in Mozambique and then started at the 2011 World Championships in Baku , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Worapoj Petchkoom from Thailand (7:16).

At the African Olympic qualification in Morocco in April 2012 he reached third place and at the African Nations Cup in June 2012 in Botswana he came first. He then took part in the 2012 Olympic Games in London , but lost in the first fight against Detelin Dalakliew from Bulgaria (6:15).

In 2013 he won the Zone 4 African Championships in Botswana and came second in the same event in 2014. In June 2014 he won the African Nations Cup in South Africa again.
