Nicholas "Nick" Okoth Okongo (* 3. March 1983 ) is a Kenyan boxer in the lightweight .

Career

Nick Okoth won the African Zone 5 Championships in Kenya in 2005 and the East African Military Games in Tanzania in 2007 . In 2007 he took part in the World Military Games in India and in 2008 won the African Olympic qualification tournament in Namibia . At a tournament in Taiwan he also defeated Satoshi Shimizu . At the 2008 Olympic Games in China , however, he was eliminated in the first fight against Arturo Santos Reyes.

In 2009 and 2010 he again won the East African Military Games and started at the 2009 World Championships in Italy , where he lost to Kerem Gürgen after beating Satoshi Shimizu. At the Commonwealth Games in India in 2010, he finished fifth.

In 2011 he was a participant in the World Military Games in Brazil and in 2014 in the Commonwealth Games in Scotland , where he came in 6th. In 2015 he won the bronze medal at the African military championships in Tunisia and the African Games in the Republic of the Congo .

In 2016 he failed at the Olympic qualification tournaments in Cameroon and Azerbaijan . In 2017 he won the African Championships in the Republic of the Congo by beating Reda Benbaziz in the final and qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Germany , where he lost in the first fight against Wanderson de Oliveira.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, he lost in the preliminary round to Michael Alexander.

family

His brother is boxer Absolom Okinyi Okoth, a silver medalist at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
