The Fliess Bay (in Argentina Caleta Almirante Fliess ) is a bay on the north coast of the West Antarctic Joinville Island . It is located immediately west of Fitzroy Point .
The name of the bay appears for the first time on an Argentine map from 1957. It is named after Admiral Felipe Fliess (1878–1952), commander of a delegation of the Argentine armed forces on the corvette Uruguay to rescue the troubled Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) below led by Otto Nordenskjöld . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee converted the Spanish name into English on February 12, 1964.
