Şahin İmranov

Şahin İmranov ([ ʃɑhɪn ɪmrɑnɔv ]; born September 23, 1980 in Sumgait , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani boxer , two-time vice European champion and winner of a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in the featherweight category.

Career

Şahin İmranov started boxing as a teenager. In order to be able to fully devote himself to this sport, he entered the Azerbaijani army and was stationed in Baku . Because of his successes and personality, he was soon named captain of the Azerbaijani national boxing team. The 1.70 meter tall and approx. 60 kg heavy athlete was very susceptible to injuries, so that he missed even greater successes because of it.

He first intervened in international boxing in 2002. After winning boxing tournaments in Makhachkala and Baku , he started at the European Championships this year in Perm . He finished there in featherweight behind the Russian Raimkul Malachbekow an excellent 2nd place. In 2003 he won another medal with 3rd place, which he achieved at the World Military Championships in Catania . In front of him, Domenico Valentino from Italy and Alexei Tischtschenko from Russia were just two top performers.

In 2004 Şahin İmranov qualified with a 2nd place at the Feliks Stamm tournament in Warsaw for participation in the Olympic Games in Athens . There he met in featherweight after a victory over Ludorno Galada from South Africa in the round of 16 against Alexei Tishchenko, against whom he had to be taken out of the ring in the third round due to an injury. He came in 9th place in the final bill.

At the 2005 World Cup in Mianyang / China , Şahin İmranov disappointed, because he lost his fight there in the round of 32 against Andreas Propp from Germany on points (10:15), was eliminated and together with all the losers of this round came on 17th . Space.

At the 2006 European Championships in Plovdiv he was more successful again. He won there over Khedafi Djelkhir from France , Dmytro Bulenkow from Ukraine and Alexej Schajdulin from Bulgaria , all boxers of the European top class and was only defeated in the final against Albert Selimow from Russia, making him vice European champion for the second time.

This high was followed by another small low at the 2007 World Cup in Chicago . Şahin İmranov first won over Issa Samir from Ghana and Valentīns Morozovs from Latvia , but surprisingly lost in the round of 16 against Antresh Lalit Lakra from India on points (9:15), which left him only 9th place.

In 2008 he qualified in Pescara with victories over János Mihály from Hungary , Michal Bjarnadski from Belarus and Wilhelm Gratschow from Germany and a defeat against Khedafi Djelkhir, which played no role in the Olympic qualification, for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing . In Beijing he won over Galib Schafarow from Kazakhstan , Nikoloz Izoria from Georgia and Idel Torriente from Cuba (16:14) and thus faced Khedafi Djelkhir again in the semifinals. He had to give up after the first round because of an injury, but at least won an Olympic bronze medal .
