Miklós Varga (born August 26, 1987 in Debrecen ) is a Hungarian boxer .

Career

National

Miklós Varga is Hungarian featherweight champion in 2005, Hungarian champion in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013 in lightweight, and runner-up in 2014 and 2015.

youth

He is bronze medalist in featherweight at the 2003 European Schoolchildren Championships in Rome , as well as the round of 16 at the 2003 European Cadet Championships in Kaunas and the 2003 Cadet World Championships in Bucharest .

EU championships

In 2008 he won the silver medal in the lightweight at the EU championships in Poland , when he only failed in the final against Thomas Stalker . He was also quarter-finalist of the EU championships in 2006, 2007 and 2009, and eighth-finalist in 2008. In one of his fights, he beat Fatih Keleş .

European championships

At the European Championships he started in Bulgaria for the first time in 2006 , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Wasgen Safarjanz . In 2008 in England he won a bronze medal in the lightweight after beating Rudolf Dydi and Koba Pchakadse and losing to Leonid Kostylev in the semifinals . In 2010 in Russia he failed in the quarterfinals to Eric Donovan , and in 2011 in Turkey in the preliminary round match against Ildar Waganow.

In 2013 in Belarus he again won a bronze medal in the lightweight. After victories against Mateusz Polski and Donato Cosenza, he lost in the semifinals against Wasgen Safarjanz . At the first European Games in Baku in 2015 , he lost to Sofiane Oumiha in the quarter-finals .

World championships

At the 2005 World Cup in China, he lost the first fight against Sodgerel Battur, as well as against Eric Donovan at the 2007 World Cup in the USA . 2009 in Italy he was eliminated in the second preliminary round against Eugen Burhard (10: 10+).

At the 2011 World Cup in Azerbaijan he reached the quarterfinals against Nikoloz Izoria , Abdelkader Chadi and Madadi Nagsibekow, where he lost to Domenico Valentino . In 2013 in Kazakhstan he defeated Edgaras Skurdelis and lost to Vikash Malik in the round of 16.

Olympic games

In March 2008 he reached the second place in the lightweight in the European Olympic qualification in Italy , after he had defeated Konstantin Kupatadze, Ross Hickey and Georgian Popescu and was only defeated in the final against Olexandr Klyuchko. This placement was enough for a participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , where he lost in the first fight against Merei Aqschalow .

By reaching the quarter-finals at the 2011 World Cup, he had also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Evaldas Petrauskas .

In the 2016 European qualification in Samsun, he lost to Joseph Cordina in the round of 16 after defeating Michal Zátorský in the preliminary round.

World Series of Boxing

He was also a participant in the World Series of Boxing and fought for the Milano Thunder team in 2011/12 .
