Leonid Yevgenevich Kostylev ( Russian Леонид Евгеньевич Костылев , scientific transliteration Leonid Evgen'evič Kostylev ; born May 8, 1989 ) is a Russian boxer . In 2008 he became the European lightweight amateur champion.
Career
Leonid Kostylew comes from Tschischmy in Bashkortostan . He works there as a militia officer. He started boxing as a teenager. In 2007 he started at the Russian junior lightweight championship, but was eliminated in the first round with a point defeat against Garnik Mamikojan (21:28) and thus did not reach the round of the last 16 boxers.
In 2008 Leonid Kostylew increased enormously and in October 2008, in the absence of world champion Alexei Tishchenko, with victories over Nikolai Oganesjan, Yevgeny Gradovich, Vladimir Magzumow and Eduard Chusainow, he became the Russian senior champion. He was then used by Alexander Lebsjak , the head coach of the Russian national boxing team, at the European Championships in Liverpool in November 2008. There the 19-year-old young boxer fully justified the trust placed in him at his first international start, because he won points over Steven Sharoudi, Scotland (9: 5), Rachid Azzedine , France (9: 3), Miklós Varga , Hungary (11: 2) and Wasgen Safarjanz , Belarus (7: 3) convincingly European champions .
