Thomas 'Tom' Lee Stalker (* the thirtieth June 1984 in Liverpool ) is an English professional boxer in the lightweight . As an amateur, Stalker was vice European champion in 2010 and 2011 , bronze medalist at the 2011 World Championships and participant in the 2012 Olympic Games .

Amateur career

Thomas Stalker began boxing at the Saint Aloysius Gym in Huyton at the age of 18 . His trainer was Kenny Willis. He later boxed for the Salisbury ABC (Amateur Boxing Club) under Terry Edwards.

His first international appearance followed at the EU Championships in 2008 in Poland , where he defeated Juan Lopez, Artur Schmidt and Miklós Varga and won the gold medal in the lightweight. At the European Championships in Liverpool in 2008 he beat Almir Skrijelj and Artur Schmidt again, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Wasgen Safarjanz .

In 2009 he won the silver medal in the lightweight at the EU championships in Denmark after losing to Eugen Burhard in the final. He had previously prevailed against Michał Żeromiński, Miklós Varga and Eric Donovan . He ended the 2009 World Championships in Milan in the round of 16 after losing to Éverton Lopes , having previously won his preliminary rounds against Joegen Ladon and Vilasack Khuandy.

In 2010 he started as team captain of the British relay at the Commonwealth Games in India and secured the gold medal in the lightweight with wins against Clevon Rock, Kamal Sameera, Luke Jackson, Jai Bhagwan and Josh Taylor . He also won the silver medal in the lightweight at the 2010 European Championships in Moscow . After victories against Domenico Valentino , Artjoms Ramlavs and Eugen Burhard, he was only defeated in the final against Albert Selimow . He was then voted Britain's Amateur Boxer of the Year.

He repeated winning the silver medal in the light welterweight division at the 2011 European Championships in Ankara , when he again reached the final against Bakur Gogochuri, Oleksandr Klyuchko, Hratschik Jawachjan and Vincenzo Mangiacapre and lost there to Raymond Moylette . He also won a bronze light welterweight medal at the 2011 World Championships in Baku . He reached the semi-finals against Joelvis Hernandez, Brice Bassolé, Alexander Soljanikow and Manoj Kumar , where he lost to Denys Berintschyk .

He was then qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he also went to the start as team captain of Great Britain and won the preliminary round against Manoj Kumar. In the quarter-finals he lost in the fight for entry into the medal ranks just 22:23 against Urantschimegiin Mönch-Erdene and was eliminated without medals . The following appeal against the judgment was dismissed by the AIBA Committee.

Professional career

After the Olympics, he signed a professional contract with Promoter Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Sport and won his debut on February 23, 2013 against Kristian Laight. After Anthony Ogogo, he was the second British Olympic participant in boxing in 2012, who switched to the professional camp after the Games. In 2014 he switched to promoter Frank Warren .

After nine development fights, he suffered his first defeat as a professional on October 25, 2014, when he was defeated by TKO in Liverpool against the also undefeated Jack Catterall in the eighth round after he had already been on the ground in the first two rounds. The fight was about the vacant WBO European light welterweight championship.

In 2015 he boxed a draw against Tommy Carus and twice against Craig Evans in Manchester . Against Evans it was both times for the WBO European lightweight championship. He finally secured the title on June 4, 2016 by winning points against the Portuguese Antonio Bento, but lost it in his first title defense on November 26 of the same year by losing points to Craig Evans.

On September 30, 2017, he also lost in the fight for the Commonwealth lightweight championship against Sean Dodd.
