Anthony Osezua Ojo Ogogo (born November 24, 1988 in Lowestoft ) is an English professional middleweight boxer. As an amateur boxer, he became the cadet world champion in the light middleweight division in 2005 and won the Olympic bronze medal in the middleweight division in 2012.
Amateur career
Anthony Ogogo is the son of an Englishwoman and a Nigerian and has been boxing since he was 10 years old. He belongs to the Triple A Boxing Club Lowestoft and is trained there by John Cremin. He also trains frequently at the British Boxing Association's performance center in Sheffield . At a height of 1.82 meters, he fights in the middleweight division .
He was English junior welterweight champion in 2005 and won the gold medal in light middleweight at the 4th Cadet World Championships in Liverpool in October of the same year . He prevailed against Kemal Bayramov from Turkmenistan, Dante Moore from the USA, Olexandr Mykhalko from Ukraine and Ruslan Derbenew from Russia.
In 2006 he joined the welterweight division at the 14th Junior World Championships in Agadir and defeated Martin Lynch from Ireland in the preliminary round before losing to the later gold medalist Julio César Iglesias from Cuba in the round of 16 . Also at the 20th European Junior Championships in 2007 in Sombor , he was defeated in the second fight by the Serbian Aleksandar Spirko .
In 2008 he was English welterweight champion and in 2010 English middleweight champion. In 2010 he also won the British Championships in Manchester and won the silver medal at the 19th Commonwealth Games in Delhi . At the 38th European Championships of the same year in Moscow , he lost in the second fight against Darren O'Neill from Ireland.
At the 16th World Championships 2011 in Baku , he won the first two fights against the Korean Woo Sung Jae 17: 7 and Artyom Chebotaryov from Russia 12:11, before losing to the Brazilian Esquiva Falcão Florentino 12:17 on points. At the European Olympic qualification in 2012 in Trabzon , he reached the final and thus received a starting place in the middleweight division at the Summer Olympics in London . There he defeated Junior Castillo Martinez from the Dominican Republic 13: 6 in the preliminary round and the reigning world champion Evhen Khytrov from Ukraine +18: 18 in the round of 16 . In the quarterfinals he defeated the German Stefan Härtel 15:10 and moved into the semi-finals, where he was again defeated by the Brazilian Esquiva Falcão Florentino 9:16 and thus retired from the games with a bronze medal.

Professional career
Ogogo made his professional debut against Kieron Gray on April 27, 2013 in Sheffield and won by TKo in the second round. After eleven wins in a row, he lost prematurely to fellow countryman Craig Cunningham in October 2016. In the fight against Cunnigham, Ogogo suffered a serious eye injury, with complicated facial fractures and severe visual disturbances. After longing for a comeback in the ring, he followed the advice of doctors in March 2019 and announced his retirement from professional boxing.
