Esquiva Falcão Florentino (born December 12, 1989 in Vitória ) is a Brazilian professional boxer . His greatest success as an amateur was winning the silver medal in the middleweight division at the 2012 Olympics .
He is the brother of the boxer Yamaguchi Falcão .
Boxing career
He was Brazilian welterweight runner-up in 2007 and 2008. He was defeated in both finals by Pedro Lima , the winner of the 2007 Pan American Games . At the Pan American Championships in Cuenca in 2008 , Florentino won the bronze medal in the welterweight division. In 2009 he won two comparative matches against the Italian Luca Melis and again won a bronze medal in the welterweight division at the Pan American Championships in Mexico City .
In 2010 he won another bronze medal in the welterweight division at the 9th South American Games in Medellín . In the same year he was also the first Brazilian middleweight champion. In 2010/2011 he took part in the World Series of Boxing , defeating the two Americans William Williams and Chris Jones . However , he suffered a point defeat against US champion Terrell Gausha .
At the 16th World Championships in Baku in 2011 , he defeated Mamadou Fall from Senegal in the first preliminary round with a clear 25: 9, and in the second preliminary round the Australian Rob Jankovski 15: 9. In the last sixteen he defeated the Englishman Anthony Ogogo 17:12 and moved into the quarterfinals, where he defeated the Kazakhs Donabek Suzhanov 13:10. In the semifinals he was finally defeated by the Japanese Ryota Murata with a clear 11:24 and thus got out of the World Cup with a bronze medal.
In 2012 he was again Brazilian middleweight champion and took part in the chemistry cup in Halle , where he won the silver medal. He won the first round against the Austrian World Cup participant Arbi Chakaev 20:13 and in the quarterfinals against the Algerian Olympic starter Abdelmalek Rahou 14: 4. With a 15:14 semi-final victory against Danabek Suzhanov, he moved into the final, but lost to German Stefan Härtel 9:15.
As a starter at the 30th Summer Olympics in London , he won the preliminary round against the Azerbaijani Soltan Migitinow 24:11 and moved into the quarter-finals, where he defeated Zoltán Harcsa from Hungary 14:10. In the semifinals he won again against the Englishman Anthony Ogogo 16: 9 and was thus in the final against Ryota Murata , to which he was only slightly defeated with 13:14.
At the 17th World Championships in Almaty in October 2013 , he came through a bye and a points win against Vitaly Bondarenko from Ukraine in the round of 16, where he lost to the Russian Artyom Chebotaryov .
At the beginning of 2014 he switched to the professional camp and won his debut on February 15th.
