Arbi Chakaev

Arbi Chakaev ( Russian Арби Маирбекович Чакаев , Arbi Mairbekowitsch Tschakajew ; born October 13, 1990 in Proletarsk ) is an Austrian professional boxer of Russian origin in the middleweight division.

Boxing career

Arbi Chakaev is southpaw and boxed for BC Unterberger in Wörgl . He was Austrian junior welterweight champion in 2007, Austrian junior middleweight champion in 2009, Austrian middleweight champion in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, and Austrian light heavyweight champion in 2014. In addition, he was also Tyrolean junior welterweight champion in 2007 and 2008, and Tyrolean middleweight champion in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

From September to October 2011 he was the only Austrian representative at the 16th World Championships in Baku , where he prevailed in the preliminary round against Emmanuel Quarshie from Ghana, but then suffered a point defeat against Cuban Emilio Correa Bayeux .

At the 39th Chemistry Cup in March 2012 in Halle , he met the later silver medalist of the Olympic Games 2012 Esquiva Falcão Florentino from Brazil in the preliminary round and lost to 13:20. He then started in April of the same year at the European qualifying tournament held in Trabzon to participate in the Summer Olympics in London , where he lost to the Russian Maxim Koptjakow 5:14. Also at the 1st U-22 European Championships in December 2012 in Kaliningrad , he lost in the round of 16 to the Russian local hero Maxim Timofejew on points.

At the 40th Chemistry Cup in Halle in 2013, he got out with a bronze medal. He was defeated on points in the semifinals against the German Stefan Härtel . At the European Championships in Minsk in June 2013 , he lost in the round of 16 against Jason Quigley from Ireland after defeating the Finn Kaupo Arro in the preliminary round.

Chakaev has been boxing in the professional camp since June 2016.

  • March 2012: 2nd place in the middleweight division at the 43rd Grand Prix in Ústí (victory against Tomáš Bezvoda from the Czech Republic, defeat against Anthony Ogogo from England)
  • June 2012: 2nd place in the middleweight division at the Grand Prix Slovakia in Nitra (victory against László Tóth from Hungary, defeat against Josef Pavlis from the Czech Republic)
  • June 2012: 2nd place in the middleweight division at the 21st Chemnitz boxing tournament in Chemnitz (victory against Pedro Sado from Germany, loss against Peter Müllenberg from the Netherlands)
  • October 2012: 3rd place in the middleweight division at the 33rd Tammer tournament in Tampere (victory against Luca Podola from Italy, defeat against Henry Kekalainen from Finland)

Others

Arbi Chakaev fled the war in Chechnya with his mother, brother and sister . His father was killed in the fighting. He was initially housed in the Traiskirchen refugee camp and now lives in Tyrol. He has had Austrian citizenship since April 18, 2011.
