Johann Schepenstede
Johann Schepenstede († 1388 in Lübeck ) was councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.
Life
Johann Schepenstede was the son of the Lübeck councilor Johann von Schepenstede . He has been a councilor of Lübeck since 1350 and was Lübeck's war captain in the First Waldemark War against Denmark in 1365 . In 1367 he was the treasurer. In 1370 and 1371 he was the city's ambassador in Novgorod and negotiated new versions of the Schra , the internal constitution of the Hanseatic office there, the Peterhof . Schepenstede was, together or alternating with the mayor Simon Swerting and the councilor Hermann von Osenbrügge, representative of Lübeck on several Hanseatic days from 1368 to 1388. From 1375 he was the head of the Petrikirche (Lübeck) .
Johann Schepenstede was married three times. Through his second marriage to Adelheid Warendorp, he was able to compensate for a considerable financial imbalance that occurred in 1361 using his wife's assets. The third marriage with Margarethe Warendorp led to another substantial dowry, so that Schepenstede was one of the wealthiest merchants in the city in the 1370s and in 1378 was able to grant the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg a loan of 1,000 marks. Outside the city, he owned agricultural and forestry property in Niendorf, Reecke, and Groß Schenkenberg. In the city he lived at Mengstraße 18 until 1341 and later at Königstraße 75. In 1380 he made his will, which was printed by Jacob von Melle .
His daughter Margarethe Schepenstede married councilor Reyner von Calven in 1388 . Her coat of arms can be found on the tombstone of her son, the Lübeck mayor Wilhelm von Calven in the Aegidienkirche (Lübeck) . His daughter Katharina married the councilor Johann Lüneburg .
