Jason Robert Quigley (born May 19, 1991 in Donegal ) is an Irish professional boxer. Among the amateurs, he was European welterweight champion in 2009, European junior middleweight champion in 2012, middleweight European champion in 2013, and also middleweight runners-up in 2013.

Amateur career

He started boxing at the age of seven and trained at the Finn Valley Amateur Boxing Club in County Donegal . He was Irish youth welterweight champion in 2009 and Irish U-23 middleweight champion in 2012. 2010 and 2011 he was each Irish middleweight runner-up; he lost it in both finals against Darren O'Neill . In the 2010 semi-finals, he beat Eamon O'Kane .

In August 2009 he took part in the European Youth Championships in Szczecin , Poland , where he won the welterweight gold medal. He sat down against Joni Polishsuk from Finland (7: 0), Catalin Paraschiveanu from Romania (2: 0), Muratcan Buğra Öner from Turkey (4: 3), Dschaba Chositashvili from Georgia (4: 0) and Emil Achmadow Azerbaijan (6: 1) through.

In December 2012 he was also able to fight for the gold medal in the middleweight division at the U22 European Championships in Kaliningrad, Russia . He won in the preliminary round against Ádám Grabecz from Hungary (16: 3), in the round of 16 against Deniss Kormilin from Estonia (19: 7), in the quarter-finals against Victor Corobcevschii from Moldova (12: 9), in the semi-finals against Maxim Timofejew from Russia (15:13) and in the final against Denis Radovan from Germany (17:11).

He became the Irish Middleweight Champion in 2013 after beating Chris Blaney, Darren O'Neill , Conrad Cummings and Roy Sheahan. In June 2013 he also won the European Championships in Minsk, Belarus . He beat Arbi Chakaev from Austria (3: 0), Stefan Härtel from Germany (3: 0), Jewhen Chytrow from Ukraine (3: 0) and Bogdan Juratoni from Romania (2: 1).

As the reigning European champion, he then started in October 2013 at the World Championships in Almaty . He defeated Vijender Kumar from India (2-0), Aston Brown from Scotland (3-0), Zoltán Harcsa from Hungary (3-0) and Artyom Chebotaryov from Russia (3-0), becoming the first Irish boxer in history into a World Cup final. There he was defeated by the Kazakh local hero Schänibek Älimchanuly (0: 3) after a courageous fight and suffered the first defeat of the last 32 victories in a row.

Professional career

At the beginning of 2014 he switched to professional life and is under contract with Golden Boy Promotions. He won his first fight on July 12, 2014 by knockout in the first round. His first major win was on May 7, 2016 by unanimous decision against James De la Rosa (23-3). On March 23, 2017, he defeated Glen Tapia (23-3) in the fight for the NABF middleweight title.

In July 2019 he lost to Tureano Johnson by giving up after the ninth round .
