Schänibek Älimchanuly ( Kazakh Жәнібек Әлімханұлы , Russian Жанибек Алимханулы , Schanibek Alimchanuly ; born April 1, 1993 ) is a Kazakh boxer.

Amateur career

Älimchanuly comes from the Almaty region , was Kazakh youth welterweight champion in 2009 and took part in the 7th Junior World Championships in 2009 in Yerevan , Armenia, (round of 16) and the 2nd World Youth Championships in Baku , Azerbaijan, in 2010 (quarter-finals).

In 2012 he won the Kazakh Middleweight Championships and started in this weight class at the 27th Asian Championships held in Amman , Jordan in July 2013 . With victories against Schuchrat Abdullajew from Uzbekistan (2: 1), Wen Yinhang from China ( technical knockout ), Sajad Mehrabi from Iran (2: 1) and Navrus Jafojew from Tajikistan (3: 0), he secured the Gold medal and was therefore qualified for the 17th World Championships in October 2013 in Almaty . There he defeated Soltan Migitinow from Azerbaijan (3-0) in the preliminary round, Juan Antonio Mercado from Mexico in the round of 16 (technical knockout) and in the quarterfinals Bogdan Juratoni from Romania (3-0). In the subsequent semi-final, he was without a fight ( WO explains) the winner because his English opponent Anthony Fowler could not compete due to a hand injury. In the final fight he met the reigning European champion and in the last 32 fights unbeaten Jason Quigley from Ireland, which he had already in the first round and in the end was clearly 3-0, world champion in the middleweight division.

He was also able to convince at the Asian Games in October 2014 in Incheon , South Korea . After victories against Yang Yu-Ting from Taiwan (knockout), Sajad Mehrabi from Iran (3: 0), Vikas Krishan from India (2: 1) and Odai Alhindawi from Jordan (3: 0), he won again the gold medal.

At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , however, he was unable to defend his title. After a bye for the preliminary round and a round of 16 victory against Misael Rodríguez from Mexico (3: 0), he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Michael O'Reilly from Ireland (1: 2).

In April 2016 he won the Asian Olympic qualification in Qian'an with victories against the starters from Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and China. In the games themselves he defeated Anthony Fowler (3-0) and Ilyas Abbadi (3-0), before he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Kamran Şahsuvarlı (1: 2).

Professional career

He made his professional debut on October 29, 2016. He is signed to Top Rank and is trained by Buddy McGirt . In April 2019, he won the WBC Continental Americas middleweight title.
